In the summer of 1995 the regional headquarters of Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois opened a new Synagogue on Chicago’s far north side Bais Menachem – Nusach Ari – named in honor of the Lubavitcher Rebbe and in continuum of the Albany Park Nusach Ari Synagogue. Rabbi and Mrs. Daniel זיל Moscowitz, head shluchim to the state of Illinois and Rabbi and Mrs. Baruch Epstein, directors of Community Development and Women to Women, led this new venture.

Bais Menachem started with a group of families committed to the Shul motto; “Bais Menachem – Nusach Ari; we are not just a Shul we’re family,” and quickly flourished as a warm and inviting place to daven, make friends and be inspired.

As the community expanded and the Synagogue filled up – more activities were added. The facility located at 2833 W. Howard is busy. As both the home of the Synagogue as well the headquarters for Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois there is daily morning minyan, Torah classes, Friendship Circle monthly gatherings, the Women to Women classes and programming, farbrengens all making Judaism available and wonderful.

In winter 2000, Rabbi & Mrs. Moscowitz moved to begin Chabad of Northbrook and Rabbi Baruch Epstein, assumed the Rabbinic position at Bais Menachem.

Mrs. Chaya Epstein is the shul Rebbetzin, teaching the classes of Women to Women, organizing social activities, running the wildly popular Shabbos morning Children’s Program and creating the warm feeling that welcomes everyone to Shul.

In 2016 Rabbi Eliyahu and Mrs. Rivka Rapoport joined our staff, bringing new classes and programs to our shul.

A list of the weekly classes and programs are available here, as well as upcoming events.

We invite you to come and join the family, come for davening, a class and to enjoy the Shabbos cholent!
